Marquita Reflects on Her Transitioning Journey
It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by since Carol’s Daughter whisked us off to NYC for a crash course in how to be fabulous while transitioning. When I got heard I was a Transitioning Movement winner, it could not have come at a better time. I was elbow deep in my grad school thesis and freaking out about entering the real world. Transitioning with the help of Carol’s Daughter was one of the most randomly amazing things I’ve done and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity.
As you all saw, I went through a few phases during my transitioning time. My Diane da Costa haircut really grew on me; especially when I got better at doing twist outs. Sadly, as my roots grew out, my frustration did, too. Managing two textures 7 months into transitioning is for people with time, patience, and incredible arm strength.
If you told me that I would be a big chopper, I would have been like “Me? With this round face?!” But, I went for it and am so happy that I did. Experimenting with the different Carol’s Daughter’s products, learning how to take care of it from Diane.
Thanks for all the supportive comments whether on the site or on Carol’s Daughter’s Facebook page (which you should “Like,” by the way). I was already super happy about my new natural ‘do, but going on Facebook and seeing so many positive comments about it was an ego boost!
And last but not least, thanks so much to the Carol’s Daughter team for giving me the chance to meet you guys and be a part of the family for a year. The Transitioning Movement website is such a positive force in the natural hair community. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
